Combining monolithic heaviness with spacious melodies, Spiritu rises from the New Mexico desert like a second atomic genesis. The band recorded their 2002 debut album with grunge legend Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Zeke), and opened the Metal Hammer-sponsored Monstergroove tour across Europe with headliners Clutch and Spiritual Beggars the following year. Morphing into a loose collective behind founding members Chav (guitar) and Jadd (vox), the re-envisioned group contributed a song to the Burn The Street Vol. 4 compilation in 2005, appearing beside Mastodon and Entombed. Spiritu's four-song contribution to the "Human Failures"
split CD (2006) is soulful, aggressive, and atmospheric, floating somewhere between Solace, ISIS and Mogwai. |
